Default Anything negative regarding serp. bearing replacement?

Did a search and found several emails regarding a procedure to replace the serpentine belt tensioner bearing with a SNR 6203.FT150 bearing. These emails were written in 2004 and I was wondering if anybody has experienced any NEGATIVE results from doing this. I ordered the whole assy from Blau but it is out of stock. I am very tempted to cancel the order and buy a bearing and rebuild myself. Current search for that bearing is - Dalton Bearing at (706) 629-1336. Price is $24.33 each.
Mark near Chicago with a noisy serp. bearing

Default I replaced the whole thing because the spring seemed to be wearing out...

No noise evident from the bearing in my case. Just a lot of jitter when the AC was on. Perhaps this was an excess of caution, but the spring was over 10 years old anyway, and a failure could take out the timing belt. If I remember correctly, someone here had a crack develop in the casting of the tensioner, which could have been ugly.

Just food for thought.

Default How could a serp belt tensioner failure take out the timing belt?

I'm not doubting it, I'm just wondering how that would happen. I've never had the front of my engine apart yet, but isn't the timing belt covered and protected from the serp belt and road debri?

Default Have heard (not experienced) that the serp belt can get wrapped up

between the crank pulley and timing cover, damaging the cover and getting into the timing belt. This can happen when the serp belt tensioner fails.
