Electrical cutout when ABS activates.
First really snowy night so far this year, so I took the S4 out and about today. I noticed tonight when I was driving home from work that when I step on the brakes, the entire electrical system will appear to lose all current (HL cutout, radio cutout, dash lights cutout, etc) as soon as the ABS system activates.
Given that my car is an Elmwood '92, I turned the ABS off and sure enough - no problems.
Odd? I think so. Any suggestions?

Re: Electrical cutout when ABS activates.
Abs relay(on the left of clutch pedal) short-circuited?
I also have ABS issues; after cleanning/adjusting the sensors and replacing all the 3 relays, my ABS still don't show any signs of life... Anyway I don't think I really need it.

How are your battery and alternator otherwise?
It might be interesting to find the fuse that the ABS pump gets power from and drop it down a few sizes. Put in e.g. a 5 amp fuse and see if it blows. If it does not, then something weirder is afoot...

Just replaced battery within the last couple weeks. Alternator may need to be tested...
It's been hard starting the last couple times though (batt seams close to dead). I wonder if there's a short? Something to look into anyways. I appreciate the advice!

Once you realize that you need the ABS it will already be too late...
as that car/curb/tree/light pole/ect gets closer and closer and you aren't slowing down engouh. Doh! ABS is your friend in really slipery conditions.

you actually have more stopping power without ABS
that is, if you can keep your car in a straight line. ABS brakes each wheel independently, so you can give steering input as you're braking

Check your engine mount to body ground strap and connections.
I have seen a rash of ECU failures and other strange issues lately. Two of these failures were directly attributed to poor ground straps or connections. The only real way to test it is to remove the strap and clean it up.
