his engine is really clean, my engine isnt bad at all but i really think that steam clean is the way
to go, in a shop, if osmthign shorts, they will fix it, 30 bucks isnt bad to have it done right IMHO.

pressure washer?
i was thinking soaking the dirty area with simple green and let it sit for a while and wrap the alternator and other eletrical connectors with aluminum foil. Then blast away!!! well not to close that you could bust some stuff.

I'm doing mine the hard way...
actually removing items and giving them a good scrub. I'll be setting up a parts washer in the garage, and I have an old dishwasher after the in-laws remodeled that can be setup for temp use...
I'm not going to be blingy like Cody but it will be nice and clean...

Here's the instructions given to me by a BMW guy.
<center><img src="http://sio.midco.net/loe1/cleanengine1mod.jpg"></center><p>spray engine degreaser
let sit for 10 minutes
spray the rest of the degreaser
let sit for 10 minutes
garden hose (no power wash)
spray WD-40 on everything
let dry with engine on
after 30 minutes of letting it sit, use towels to rub around the WD-40

The coolant leak is(probably) where I had mine:
Look on the back of the head, under the Temp sensor and you find a coolant hose attatched to the cilinder block by a plastic fitting. Mine was leaking between the plastic and the block.

My technique
-1) Start with some Simple Green spray it down and soak
-2) Rinse with low pressure water stay way from electrical bits for the most part
-3) Elbow Grease with clean wrags
-4) Polish up with a little Armor All on the plastics and Hoses
-5) Dont ever let it get dirty again by opening your hood weekly and cleaning up with clean wrag.
