Is this normal??? Water Temp Pics Inside!
So I had my T-Stat changed today, since according to channel 51, my car wouldn't heat up past 71 degrees celsius. So now when the car is sitting in idle channel 51 will read anywhere between 81-86. Also the outside temp is 39 degrees fahrenheit. But when driving the channel 51 temp shows 80-83 but the guage is lower! What gives? As you're driving, I remember the needle stays at the idle pic position! I could be wrong, since my t-stat has been problematic for some time, and i don't remember, since it was 60 degrees or above outside.
Pic to show where needle is at Idle...

Pic to show where needle is at while driving at roughly 40 mph. At higher speeds the needle will go down further a little below the left of the mark that the needle is by. This doesn't seem normal, unless your cars do the same thing since the outside air is cold? I dunno... HELP!!!!

good post, i would of wondered the same thing, my 5000 did that (colder on the freeway)
because i jsut changed my Tstat, which wasnt stuck open but my problem is fixed. other cars i have driven dont change that much on the freeway, i think audis are designed with much better air flow, and it helps are really high speeds... i could be wrong.

Serious? I was under the impression that this is a sign of bad t-stat(broken in opne position).
He said it goes even lower if he is going faster. I don't know. Doesn't sound that normal.

ive always thought cars should stay in the same spot no matter what speed.. but like my other reply
my 5000 did it and i changed the Tstat myself and knew it was the right one. its an older car, non-turbo but it wouldnt surprise me if the S cars were the same.
But it is possible he used an 80 degree tstat?
