And so it begins... Project "S4 Refresh"
Here's my car in the "rehab facility"

After the first half hour of work:

I started tearing down the s4 for the major overhaul its gonna get. For those who need a recap, I had a compression and leakdown test done a couple months ago and the results were not good. Compression is below spec on all cylinders and leakdown is around 20% all around. The occasional cloud of smoke out the back wasnt helping my case either I have my sister's car to drive until the end of may so I decided to take the plunge: I'm rebuilding the cylinder head and while its off I'm going to replace the piston rings. Once I'm done the motor will be nice and tight and I'll continue driving this beast for awhile Here's progress pics. I started friday night and worked for about 3 hours and then spent a little more time on it today. I would've had the head off already but i'm missing the 12-point driver for teh head bolts and the crazy long 5mm alen key for the intake manifold bolts.
As of tonight: Only the coolant and oil return lines for the turbo need to be disconnected before the head can come out.

While I'm in there I'm replacing the motor mounts, trans mounts and subframe bushings as well as any vac and coolant hoses that look like they need replacing. The t-belt/wp service will also be done since I'm in there. The list goes on... If you wanna see more pics follow teh link.

More pics

may i suggest, if you have the fundage, to get an RS2 manifold
it was a big enough pain to install on the bench...i can't imagine installing it with the head in the car.
also...i hope you're going with head studs instead of new head bolts

The RS2 manifold is a STRONG possibility...
along with a full RS2 conversion depending on what kind of condition the K24 is in... I'm going with ARP head studs and rod bolts on the reassembly side, BTW
