Default Thinking about getting another car so I can do repeair myself - dealer is too expensive. Any ideas?

I am considering:
- 90-91 Audi Coupe( +: good engine, awd, I like body; -: 2dr )
- 89-91 200TQ (+reliable, upgradeable; - looks old)

- 91-94 100 (+: C4 body; big minus V6 12v - painful as my wife's '95 90 I spent more time repair it then she drove in 1st year, now Ok...)

- V8 - hard to find 5spd and I can't stand auto...

- 82-87 Coupe Quattro - hard to find and expensive;

I just want something <$4K, but still nice to drive;

Any suggestions?

Default well, of course u always want to get something u like, but since its ur second car

I would get what will be the least maintanence wise. a 200TQ would be cool i have always wanted one (the 20valve) but maybe somthing that isnt as expensive to maintain, thats my input at least. but if u have the money and time time to fix and maintain to cars, go for something you would love..

My dream is half full with the S4, if i had a 78 FJ40 landcruiser with it, i think id be in heaven. so maybe somthing liek that, oposite of a sadan...

happy car hunting!

Default The problem is that now I am very busy at work to immediately find time to fix

whatever broke in my S6, but paying $90 per hour for what I know I could do myself even if it takes 2x longer doesn't make me happier...
I think it's common problem. right?

Default Honda Civic.

Or a Toyota (or something like that). They're reliable.

Default yes i think its very common

im lucky because my family has 4 cars and i can always use one when my car is broken or just getting somthing new.

I agree with some of the posts above, a 4k would be a good car. i had a auto 5000 s, non quattro and non turbo but it was the cheapest a car can be to maintain and never had any problems where i couldnt drive it on a daily basis.

Default I'd get a 12V V6 car - 100/A6 or B4 90...

my family has three, and they have all been very reliable.

Default Do what I did......

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/19204/beater.jpg"></center><p>Granted it's boxy ( I like) but let me tell you it's:

1. Super reliable
2. Pretty comfortable
3. Dirt cheap to fix
4. Easy as hell to work on (there isn't anything I wouldn't attempt myself on this car)
5. Gets decent mpg on regular.
6. Purchased it w/ 130K miles for a whopping $1200.

Those other cars you mention will not be inexpensive to maintain.

Just my thoughts.

Default Perfect choice and really easy to fix.

Not so much fun to drive. But thats what the audi is for! I had a couple and I don't think you can find a more reliable, cheap and easy to fix car for such short money than those tanks.
