OK, so who here lives in VT? How do you like it?......

It ain't the dirty jerz that's for sure...
but it depends on what you like. VT is a great place for self-employed folks, not the best job market unless you are in a fairly specialized field and you find a job. Do you like mud and bumpy roads? Fairly cheap rent and real estate if you are in the right place. Not the most amazing amount of culture or variety, very homogenius if you know what I mean.
Personally I am pretty sure I'll go back there to live, probably when I am 50+, fat and happy.
It isn't the best place for a 20 something person trying to grow a business, meet people, find a wife and make connections. Just not enough people occupy the space, college students, working class folks, a dash of yuppy, heavy dose of hippy, 50+ that move into the expensive areas to relax and people from NJ and MA who come to crowd up the ski areas to keep VT's economy alive (note this year doesn't count so far, winter what?!).
Cheers,

LOL......
I'm seriously considering living a "more simple" life up there. Jersey has become a real drag and I really love it up there. NJ is one big cancer cluster as far as I'm concerned now. I'm looking for land in the Ludlow area as I've been visiting it since I was a wee lad.
Figure I'll sell my home here, buy some acerage up there, build a log home (not to be confused w/ log cabin) and bank the rest. I'll get a job as a "groomer" driving snow cats all night at Okemo.
Sounds fun right?
My passions besides my family are:
Audi's
Mountain Biking
Skiing
Hiking/climbing (nature in general)
Lake activities
I think VT is a good fit.

Yeah good fit...
and yes I wanted to have a night job grooming, but it's not as glam as we had imagined ha. Most of the groomers were sauced beyond recongnition
Land is cheap is many areas and I imagine that your property in the arm pit of the US has done nothing but grow in value since you bought it. It hsould get you much more up nawth.
I really like VT and always will, I miss it dearly right now actually, but mostly because of the wealth of friends I had up there plus the car club events were hilarious. Though many of my partners in crime have moved or are moving, it's really not a young person's place to make a network of friends and connections for business. However I had some good connections and a fair amount of friends, we all had a sort of similar goal to move on though and try something else. It was more relaxed than CA I tell you that much.
My place in the woods:

I lived upstairs, had my own bridge

Very cool......
Hemlock trees are your friend! Looks like a cool place.
Yeah, my home value is nuts if you ask me. I bought about 6 years ago in a nice little town w/ a train right to NYC in 25mins. Needless to say it's desireable for those who want to earn big bucks selling out to the man like I do but my priorities have changed of late, cancer will do that.
Where abouts did you live?

Yeah I hear ya...
and making the big bucks has never been much of a concern of mine. VT is a good place for that
I grew up in NY and my mother still owns our old farmhouse, the value is absolutely insane, almost sounds like a lie when she told me the appraisal value. 45 minute train ride to NYC, same type of place.
I lived in Waitsfield, about 35 min south of Burlington. Sugarbush and MRG within a 10 min drive or so. A few great restaraunts, good local folks, some crazy backwoods local folks, very odd mix. Me wearing carhartts and a hat everyday was the norm, man out here in CA everyone thinks I'm nuts
The cancer thing is tough. A friend of mine's mother went through something similar, it was a wonderful place for her to be with her family. be strong and best of luck! There's so much more out there than the big bucks.
Cheers,

VT kicks azz....
If you're going to Ludlow, I hope you've got a job lined-up at Okemo. Cuz that's all there is. The Burlington area as well as the Upper Connecticut Valley (Dartmouth College area) both have bona fide economies that could provide more back-up options as far as employment goes.
It's a great quality of life. You'll like it. Southern VT (Manchester-Brattleboro) is already filling up with Jersey dwellers, so you better head farther north to stay ahead of the pack.
Good luck.
Dave

Much employment in Rutland? Figure it's only 25 miles from Ludlow.....
that's shorter than my current commute and I assume I won't have to worry about much traffic. 8^)
