View Full Version : aftermarket front rotors?

I dropped my 93 S4 into the shop last week to get new shocks and springs, rotors and pads.

I got a phonecall today saying that they've never seen front rotors like on my car before and that neither had the brake shop. Apparently there is a hub between the wheels and the rotors which means they can't machine them either.

I have to admit i haven't looked carefully at the brakes on my car (though i've done enough work everywhere else) so i'm not sure what they're talking about. Especially when i searched the forums and saw plenty of threads about aftermarket rotors and machined rotors.

Can anybody shed some light on this for me?

('cause there's no way that i want to buy them from Audi, especially as Audi Australia == massive markup)

Thanks

I would seriously consider upgrading to later strut housings and Big Reds (Something like ECS stage II)

If you stick with the UFO's, they are available aftermarket in the US, so you sould be able to get them somewhere. In the US, they are about $200 each.

Chris Miller's 200 site.

Interesting that there's no mention of them on the S4 though.

Big Reds and later strut housings are a little out of my range at the moment, and even harder to find and more expensive in Australia so i'll stick with the UFO's for now. They're a little more than AU$300 each from Audi, so it looks like i'll have to go back to them.

Thanks for your help

The urS UFO's were common in Europe and other areas.

The UFO's are a good system - larger than the stock brakes on the US spec urS models, but the rotor cost is high (as you now know) and they can be easily warped if overheated.

FWIW, they are expensive here as well.

a bunch of guys here in South Africa have swoped the strusts on the urS4's so you can use the brakes from the 100 and also fit the big reds if you want.
It costs allot to swop out the strusts but in the long run it works out cheaper.
