Mike Desi 11-11-2005, 03:55 PM 4Driver4 11-11-2005, 04:01 PM Not only are you "rash free" but you've had a few weeks to read the forum to learn about the car and plan your mods. The car looks great! sk88erguy 11-11-2005, 04:30 PM sk88erguy 11-11-2005, 04:30 PM sk88erguy 11-11-2005, 04:32 PM sk88erguy 11-11-2005, 04:36 PM But idk i kinda like it where it is! lol, im such a "keep it all stock" look kinda guy but this just really looks nice to me. thanks though ill go out and change it and see :) spiralsmurf 11-11-2005, 04:44 PM spiralsmurf 11-11-2005, 04:45 PM sk88erguy 11-11-2005, 04:48 PM You are spraying, you have everything ready, whats the difference of doing a 5 inch piece... idk whatever, nothing i can do now i guess. sk88erguy 11-11-2005, 04:49 PM kday 11-12-2005, 08:34 AM I have more stone chips than the valley under Mt. Rushmore... :( But that's a slippery slope in itself. Bumper, fine. But why not do the hood? Or the doors? Damn. UrS4boy 11-12-2005, 10:12 AM I had the bumper off for the FMIC install on my emeral 93. Because there is the black "rub" strip on the S4 bumper and the black bit on the bottom, the actual paint area is quite small. I wet sanded the bumper a bit (400 grit wet and dry) and then masked off the black bits and sprayed the coloured bit with several coats of a high build primer. (Light sanding between coats). Then I gave it a good wet sand. This resulted in filling almost all of the stone pits. Those that remained I filled with spot putty and when it was dry, I sanded them smooth and added one more coat of primer. After it dried, I gave it a light sand and washed the dust off with clean water. When that dried (it was a warm summer day), I sprayed the bumper with a green Duplicolor paint (close but not perfect). Several coats later (some intermediate sanding), the bumper looked remarkably better. After I got the bumper back on I saw that the paint color was not quite right. (Merde). I have since purchased emerald Audi spray paint (base - clear) and will do this again in the spring. The body shop had quoted $400 to do this so for about $60 in supplies, I am WAY ahead. Dave kday 11-12-2005, 10:38 AM I tried to touch up a couple dings in one of the doors that had gone through to the primer, and the result looks worse than before I did anything. The two step (base+clear) really makes it tricky. It bums me out that my car, which was nearly perfect when I got it, now has a number of dings and nasty road rash after only two years. It's remarkable how well the P.O. kept it up in retrospect. The Librarian 11-12-2005, 11:22 AM black Dupicolor spray bomb. They'll look way better than what you have now. Then open the hood and remove the one screw that holds that metal strip in place. Then grab the now bare headlight washer head and pull out. Pivot the metal strip away from the car and pull towards the center of the car. Now wriggle the strip over the headlight washer (while holding the washer out with one hand). Its a bit tricky but in the end, easy. Don't lose the washer caps (or the two screws). Dave F. |
