I have a 98.5Q manual which I recently brought into Negherbon (Oakland, CA)for another issue (probably post that one later). In any event, asked them to check the stiffness of the shift between 1st and 2nd (I've read here that others have described notchiness when they shift). It really does feel like a synchro problem but their tech stated that it felt normal. Can anyone chime in and give me their two cents? Incidently, I also asked them to fix the infamous C pillar rattle which rattled all the way home. Anyone have a good experience with these guys? Thanks in advance!

In my 2.8QM, 1-->2 is definitely notchy, the only one that I worry about. Even double clutched, it often "thunks" - I have my first service next Wednesday and it's an issue the I want investigated.
It's also _much_ worse when it's cold.
FWIW.
--Greg
I've noticed that while in 1st. and in stop'n'go traffic that the gearshift actually wobbles when I am still in gear and slowing down. 2-5 does not exhibit this behavior, only 1st. On some other cars I've had 1st. gear did not do this so I'm wondering here.
Regards, Stuart
