it sounds like a cricket chirping or a sqeak followed by what sounds like a mechanical pumping. the sounds occur approx 2 times a second and emanates from under the car around the rear wheel well area.

i havent been able to confirm if this happens while the car is in motion. i only just noticed it a few days ago during turbo cool down periods with the hand brake on. it doesnt always chirp/pump when i idle for cool down but when it does it only lasts a few minutes. this has happened after a 10min across town trip as well as a 20min highway run.

anyone experience this before? i'm rather concerned.

Dealer said they couldn't duplicate it... imagine that. Anyway, it has been getting more frequent lately. I'm gonna try to record it for the dealer so he can hear it first hand.

You perfeclty described the sound that I get... and it happens in the same exact situation as you... I have an APR chipped 1.8T and after a long/hard drive, when I'm idling to let the turbo cool down, I get that weird chirping sound and the pumping sound too... I thought perhaps it was coming from the muffler/exhaust... but I can't tell exactly where... but it's definitely in the rear, driver side area... I was gonna take it to the dealer, but as the other person posted, they most likely won't be able to duplicate it... was also tempted to record the sound but don't know how much good that would do... have you noticed any performance loss?

I had the same sound. When I took it to the dealer the said it was the emergency brake cable. They lubed it and i don't get the sound anymore. Hope this helps.

suspension bushings. Or are you sure the car is completely still when you have this sound?
