I don't check the forum enough, but was wondering if the following is "common".

Got caught in stop and go traffic on I-25 between Co Springs and Denver... white smoke and burning refinery smell... guages all read normal... pull over open hood... lots of white smoke. Get back in, can't shift... no clutch. Car towed to McDonald Audi. They say "did you leave your foot on the clutch?" I respond not anymore than I ever have on the past three manual Accords that I put 25000, 150000, and 100000 miles on respectively with nary a transmission or clutch problem. Besides the 1.8TQM only has 1994 miles on it! Service Tech responds "hmmm, shouldn't be a way to wear one out that quick". Two days of driving a Mecury Mystique :{ latter I pick up the car. I ask: "Did you find the cause?" Tech responds
"No, but if it happens again its a factory issue. We are only required to replace the first one." I, a little surprised say, "Even if it is after only 2000 miles?" Tech: "Even 5 miles. Sorry I only enforce the rules, I don't make them."

No one said "sorry". Rather first assumption my fault... second assumption my fault, and third assumption is if it happens again my fault. Are Audi clutches this tender/fragile?

To be honest I cannot recall one A4.orger that has had a clutch replaced. My friend, who is use to be an Audi tech...and now works for AoA as a service trainer says the clutches REALLY last in an A4. Your situation is NOT normal.

Yes... the car does have piquant bouquet, reminds me of many commutes through Elizabeth N.J. while I was in Graduate School.

After rereading my note, I was wrong, someone did say they are "sorry"... but only in that they only enforce the rules.
