What a PITA! Brand new 3214 VAG tool broke! (And it's going back!)
I purchased both the 3214 & 3087 for the job. The 3087 is a fine piece! (GT500 - you would love it!) (And has all of 30 sec of use!) The 3214 is a POC. Broke apart into 3 pieces inserting the ratchet into it!
Was able to remove the pump carrier with the armstrong method on the remains of the tool. Used a channel lock plier (On the remains) on the installation.
I have thoughts on how to build a superior tool for $5 or less. In 10 min or less.
Result? The dentist is back in his office & out of my trunk! Quiet at last!
Old pump was a VDO (!!!) I installed a Pierburg (From Shokan) from good (Quiet) things I researched. Highly recomend!
Folks - this is a just plain nasty job. Bently is lacking. Lots of things just not addressed.
My thanks to those of you who have lent support.
I hope to have a tool lending program up as soon as I find out about the recourse. (If they replace the tool - I will make an adapter to eliminate the breakage problem - Refund my $$? I will make the proper tool.)
Buy 3 new hose clamps (for 5/8" OD hose.) Buy 2 12X15 (16 OK) copper / aluminium sealing rings. Buy a new sender to fuel tank O ring. Grease the O ring. Take pictures for all of the positioning relationships. (I didn't!) Buy plenty of beer! (AFTER you fill up!) Make sure the low fuel warning comes up! Drive it a while more! See a shrink!
