I tried to view the pdf files from the vw.tech site but wasn't able to. My question is this: How many recalls/tsb's are there for my 98.5 tqms that are relevant to safety, performance, or reliabilty? The ones like wind noise or key-fob range don't interest me too much. However, these recalls that mention tie-rods, brakes, and the like seem crucial. I have yet to receive any recall notices from Audi or the dealership. Before I make an appointment, I would like to have a list ready. A definitve answer on which recalls/tsb's are important would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Paul C.

First of all, you will need to have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your PC/Mac in order to read the PDF files on the Audi/VW site. It's a free piece of software, all you have to do is go to Adobe's website and download it.
The tie rod recall only effects your A4 if it's within the following VIN range:
WAU _ _ _ 8D _ WA074553 - WAU _ _ _ 8D _ XA000563
There is no "brake" recall (yet), just a problem that people seem to have when driving in rain where the brakes don't seem to do much for a second or two upon brake application. Some people notice the problem, others do not.
The "brake power assist unit vacuum by-pass kit" recall does not effect your A4 because you have a manual transmission. The only 1.8T's that are being recalled are ones with the automatic transmission.

I thought there were more...Good to know that my car is as solid as I originally thought it was. Anyway, thanks a lot Andy. You have definitely relieved my concerns about all this recall stuff.
