Went to Star motors in Nanuet, NY
Excellent service, in and out in 1/2 hour. I asked if they were chip-friendly ... and they are :)
My temperature coolant sensor was shot. They found out within 10 minutes (vag 1551) and replaced it within in another 10 minutes. Great !!
Also, just ordered my MTM stage 1 from Hoppen. WIll let you know.
adrian
Adrian,
I've been following your chip "research" in the forum. I'm nowhere near a decision as I fluctuate between being cautious vs the price/gains/satisfaction of chipping.
What I was glad to see was that you checked with Star on being chip friendly. I purchased from them and have been using them for service. Who did you speak to there?
I'm looking forward to hear your reviews and summary of why you went with Hoppen.

AdrianZ:
I was checking out the bimmer.org today and happened to peek in the 5 series forum. I wanted to see what kind of action goes on in that one since I kind of like the 540i (from a distance, of course!)
Anyway, there was a very funny thread (funny to me) about them complaining about notchy/difficult shifting! One person even talked about doing the double-clutch thing on cold mornings. Then someone else replied about how he thought it was ridiculous that an expensive luxury car had this problem and that he felt the gearing was more or less an afterthought on the 540.
See....even then bimmer dudes complain! ;)
-Cathleen

Good move Adrian, you just saved yourself tons of hassles, to bad I can't help make your chip choice easier! I still think the Stage I deal from TAP with filter included $495.00, is the way to go for 11psi, but Wett is great choice for 14.5 psi $595.00(with $100.00 discount to JetA4 people). These two give the most bang for the buck, the Neuspeed is Cheap,I think it's $300.00 for the A4,but on the weak side 8psi.
