I am expecting delivery of a 95.5 s6 avant next week (it's on a truck now). I've got a question about the remote locks... this car has a switchblade key cut for it but the remote isn't working. Were these two RF systems (95.5 and 98) compatable? Do I need to find a earlier RF transmitter?
I've seens lots of speculation about this, anyone know for sure?

but can tell you the "remote" on my 95.5 S6 Avant has never worked, and the dealership told me what looks like a remote isn't. Never did followup on that incredibly helpful answer, and have been content to live in the dark age of keys.

Hmm, think your dealer was lying to you.
My 95.5 S6 Avant has remote. It's worked fine since day one. It's different from the 95 remote, it's the 96 type of remtoe. Don't know how that relates to the 98.

Audi switched to radio frequence form infrared b/n 95 and 96 (ths 95.5 S6 has the RF). But this sustem changed? in 97 or 98? I'm curious if a later 98 style remote can trigger a 96 reciever, I know 97 A4's are compatable but it seems that the 96 probably isn't.
