View Full Version : What's the hot set up for a boost gauge for 94 S-4? Jake 03-01-2002, 04:44 PM UrS4boy 03-02-2002, 09:43 AM There are a number of options. All of them are less than perfect. What you want is a grey-faced, back-lit, red-bulbed unit capable of up to 30 psi (gauge pressure). What is typically available from VDO or AutoMeter is white-faced edge lit or black-faced back-lit. Greddy sells an edge-lit one too. On the yahoo S-car list a fellow named "Salina212" and I developed a grey-faced back-lit gauge based on a VDO gauge - but the project never went beyond the prototype phase. There wasn't enough interest from other people to warrant a production run. Mounting the gauge is easily done using an Autometer Audi A4 "A" pillar gauge pod (two or one hole) (just like the Ricers). For example at: http://www.autometer.com with enough "drilling" you should be able to find No. 5701 - a white-faced boost/vacuum gauge and 5704 a white-faced boost only (35 psig) gauge. If you poke around more you can find the A4 A-pillar pod No. 20191. There is also a new carbon-fibre (look?) pod for the new(er) Golfs and Jettas, No. 21851. That sounds interesting to me as I have a 93 mit carbon fibre trim. There are also bulb condoms (No. 3214). Keep looking you will find them. Don't stop there. Go to the VDO site at: http://www.vdona.com/aftermarket/aftermarket.html and look for Cockpit, white-faced, edge-lit gauges - 150206 Turbo boost/vacuum and just before you quit, find the Vision series and look for 151121 (this is the black-faced, rear-lit "turbo" gauge). For some other alternatives, go to Jimmy Pribble's site at: http://www.urs4.com/ and then Technical, Interior, Gauges. There are some pictures and how to's there. If you still aren't happy - search the Greddy site. They have a white-faced, back lit gauge but its US$120 and 60 mm instead of 52 mm like the others. Can't have everything. Dave F.
