Heyall. Just upgraded from a '98 New Beetle to a '95 S6 (pearl/black). Beautiful car! Love it to bits.

I have a couple of concerns, though. One is the brakes. I knew this going in, but DAMN these things suck. Granted, the New Beetles have excellent brakes, but the ones in the Audi are mushy. Sure, they'll grip once you slam into them, but they feel like I have a pillow inbetween the brake and my foot. My gf's stock '92 Sentra brakes are better. Achwell. Upgrade soon. Any suggestions? I drive hard but won't be doing a lot of race/track with it.

The second one is my real concern. The Audi's steering has a tendancy to twitch. Especially when crusing around 70kph (Canadian, eh;) without touching the gas, or as soon as the gas is touched. The steering wheel will twitch left, maybe right. I'm having trouble figuring out exactly when it does it. If I'm actively steering I don't notice a thing, but I find the fact it does this troubling. Anyone else had any experience with this?

Danke!

The brakes sound suspicious, they shouldn't be that mushy, mine feel very firm, but require a lot of pressure to really get them to work, you may have a leak somewhere. As far as the twitching, that may be tire related. What is the tire width that you are running? Those really wide tires like to wander on the road camber. Have you had the front end alignment checked? Mine came with an insane amount of negative camber in them. Do to the ease of the adjustment, the knucklehead who owned that car before me cranked them in and must have thought that it looked cool to have the front end looking like a BTCC car.

Your steering damper may be bad. They all seem to expire young. It's easy to check. It's the long tube attached at the top of the steering rack. Mine rattled like an empty can, wasn't doing anything.

Other (more dire) thought. Check the firewall where the steering box attaches. Many of the S-cars are developing cracks in the wheelwell where it attaches.
