I've been thinking of one for quite some time (mainly to save $ over my current 01 Avant), but I don't want to get into something that will cost me a lot to maintain/keep running right. Thanks for the help.

Muhammad 11-24-2001, 05:09 AM I'm sure some owners will comment but the I5 20v turbo is one of the strongest engines Audi has ever developed... there are some things to watch, and for a good bit of info on that check out UrS4.com... as with all Audis, watch the electronic stuff (can be either expensive or a hassle), change the fluids and belts regularly, and they can give you 200k+ ... SDPaulS8 11-24-2001, 06:11 AM Muhammad's estimate is probably pretty close for a higher mile car, say >90K. Have mostly run around $300-500/yr and I keep everything working. Bith my ur's have been fairly low miles and well cared for when I got them. Mostly little electical stuff/bushings/repairing damage from my kids. Really fairly reliable compare to most older Audis but it has ton of gizmos and geegaws.... Could run up to $1500yr when it's time to replace timing belt/H2O pump. The most common big ticket item is the pinion bearing and first gear in the transmission if they go could be $1500-3000. Otherwise the car/engine has been pretty bullet proof and the are number of cars out there running close to 200K miles even when modified. Still much cheaper to keep running overall that my V8 was. Now when you get the bug to start modifing the car you can spend some big $$$ or even $$$$$. Can get stunning results in the mid-hi 300hp range and very drivable with proper enhancements.
