I'm looking at a used '94 S4. 115K miles, Hoppen Stage 2 setup, new crossdrilled rotors, braided lines, Koni/Eibach suspension. All recall issues have been taken care of, 2nd owner, all service done at the same dealership. I don't know if the pinion/transmission issues have cropped up. Could I expect this to be a dependable daily driver? My wife is voting against it due to the high mileage. My alternative purchase would be a '84-'89 Carrera.

Should be very dependable, but every once in a while something can and will happen. However, no more often than an 84-89 Carrera.
However, be assured that whenever something happens, the wife will keep reminding you about it. Been there, done that.

PS - Timing belt/ Waterpump etc service will be coming up soon on the car you're looking at.

I was looking for a Carrera when I found my S4. Compared to a stock Carrera the S4 is a faster, newer, much nicer car. Oh yeah I got it because it's waaay cheaper. Carreras are very cool though. My S4 has 100k and runs great.
