I recall reading somewhere that the 3 spoke sport wheel from the 95 UrS6 didn't fit on the 92 UrS4, can anyone confirm or deny. If not, any suggestions on how to get rid of my VW Dasher type wheel?

It's the european sport wheel basically from the RS2 Jerome 06-19-2001, 08:58 AM Jerome 06-19-2001, 09:02 AM I may have to do that when I get tired of the maple. Jim 06-19-2001, 10:22 AM Jason's is the Euro wheel without airbag. The 95 Sport wheel is 3spoke but totally different. I am very sure it fits, but not 100% sure. But again, Jason's is NOT the wheel you are asking about. Jimmy Pribble 06-19-2001, 11:50 AM Yes, the S6 wheel fits. Several people have converted. Issues: -cost Have you ever priced an S6 sport wheel with airbag? *cough* You gotta REALLY want it. -safety There are different part numbers for various bits in the airbag system (sensors(?), igniter ring(?), I can't remember exactly) between the UrS4 and UrS6. Could be nothing, could be something. If it is "something", the airbag could fail to deploy in an accident, or it could blow your head off. Many folks are wary of playing the mix-and-match game with this kind of system, which is why nobody (AFAIK) has just gone and used the sport wheel from the neu-S4, which of course, correctly says "S4" at the bottom and is more readily available. -installation Liability concerns (see "blow your head off" above) might make it difficult to find an installer for this project (if you can't do it yourself). Jason's steering wheel, which I believe is from the S2, rather than the RS2, eliminates a couple of these problems, but introduces others: -availability Good luck trying to find one. Blau used to sell them, but those are long gone. Obviously, you will have to look overseas and if you find one, it will probably be expensive. -no airbag Not having an airbag isn't necessarily a big deal. Having an airbag and then getting rid of it has additional responsibilities attached and could become a VERY big deal, under the right (or wrong) circumstances. If you find a cache of S2 steering wheels, PLEASE let me know and I will purchase one. HTH, Aldo 06-19-2001, 12:25 PM Anyone know if I can retrofit one of these wheels on an 89 200q? Don't care about the airbag... Thanks Jason C 06-19-2001, 02:54 PM TM 06-20-2001, 06:13 AM Careful about retrofitting a new sport wheel vs. the old. I have seen stuff about how they changed the splines (once again!) on the A4s, so you may not be able to use a neu-S4 wheel on an UrS4. Thanks, Jim Jason C 08-23-2001, 01:39 PM urS4dan 10-18-2001, 12:18 AM The RS2 had a standard airbag wheel, and later ones came with the sport wheel like a '95.5 and on S6 in the US. This steering wheel was originally used in the S2 coupe, but was also used in earlier S4's in europe, as I believe the airbag wheel was still an option at the time. By the time it became an S6, I think the airbag was standard. This one (notice the trim), was a fairly stripped down version. Blau had a bunch of these wheels (and some "Quattro" script cloth/manual original euro S4 seats) for a while, but he sold out his inventory fast. Later, Dan Hussey '94 S4 (Black/ecru) Seattle, WA |
