What body was the RS2 based on? It looks like a cross between the Coupe Quattro (s2) and the 100 (s4) avant! Thanks

The RS2 body was/is an Audi 90 Avant. There was an S2 coupe (20V turbo 3B engine) that was based on the rounder Coupe quattro and at least an S2 Avant (same 217 hp engine) that was based on the 90 Avant. Audi got together with Porsche (they do a lot of contract work like the Mercedes Benz 500E (V8 in a 300E) and apparently they weren't busy). SO you got a different intake manifold (only works on the 90's and 200 20V's) and exhaust manifold and exhaust cam (both of which work on the UrS cars). Plus you got the Porsche wheels (different hubs) and a 6-speed trans (which was pretty standard practise in Europe). Relatively skinny tires.

Find the June 1999 Issue of 911 & Porsche World for all the juicy details.

Just a few corrections/more info (I dug out the magazine in question). The engine also had a larger turbo and Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor. With everything in place, the engine made 315 hp at 6500 RPM with 302 lb-ft of torque at 3000 RPM. All of these parts are bolt-ons onto the 227 hp AAN engine. However, you would then need to upgrade the ECU software to match. Hoppen and Intended Acceleration come to mind in North America.

The brakes were derived from the 968 (and therefore, very likely, Brembo's). The wheels were skinny (7j x 17 Porsche Cup wheels) but the tires were not very skinny at 245/40/17 Dunlop SP 8000's (long live the 8000 - now there was a tire!!)

I haven't seen ANY Audi 90s here that resemble the RS2! The ones I've seen look almost like (gasp) volvslos!

But aren't the 90's quite light compared to the UrS6? A 300+ hp motor would really move that car!

As far as I remember, Audi only imported the 90 as a four door sedan and, if you like, the 20V non-turbo Coupe Quattro - no Avant for N.America. The spec's that I have say 197 hp/tonne (1000 kg) so at 315 hp the weight must have been about 1599 kg or about 3520 lbs (not real light). Performance was 0-100 kph (62 mph) in 5.4 sec (vs the 217 hp S2's 6.1 secs) Top speed 163 mph (Another test said 0-60 moh in 4.85 sec and 160 mph). Fast enough regardless.

Yeah, "cool' is a good word.
