Well, I decided to throw my stock chip back in my A4 since it's heading to the dealer for a visit to investigate it's sluggishness. Amazingly, the stock chip feels about the same as my 1.0 bar Wett....further proof in my mind that something's wrong in the turbo system (broken wastegate rod, blow hose, etc.)
One other thing I noticed while driving it...while coasting in gear with the windows down I can hear a metallic rattle coming from under the car. It sounds like it's coming from the passenger side. With the windows up you can barely hear the noise. Could this be the broken wastegate rod rattling? We'll see.
I called the dealer today and told him the symptoms (sluggish acceleration, the rattle noise). He asked how many miles (28,000) and said that it was probably the wastegate rod, so I guess this isn't the first time he's heard of this problem. Unfortunately, they won't be able to see my car for a week. So I get to drive the slug for another week.
To top it off, on the way into work this morning, a large piece of a truck tire was thrown up by the car in front of me. I had no time to swerve or stop and I ran right over it. Put some nice rubber streaks down the left side and on the front fascia, all of which came off with a bit of Meguire's quick detailer and a towel. BUT, when I drive in reverse, I have a load knocking sound. No noise in any other gear. I'm thinking a heat shield or something got bent cause the tire definitely made contact with the underside of the car (black rubber streaks all over one of the mufflers). Any thoughts?
Andy Hedin
Dreaming of getting Wett again!
'97 A4 1.8Tqms, Wett 1.0 Bar, ABT Filter, Tint...with no power and a knocking back-up noise
