...on a 2000 Passat as described in a VWVortex post:

"To make a long story short, Jiffy Lube drained my transmission fluid instead of my oil (overfilled the oil) during an oil change. I drove it home, noticed it was slipping but never imagined it was something they had done. Hubby drove it waaayyyy out to mechanic (probably 30 miles or more altogether).

Mechanic said tranny was completely dry and smoke was coming out, metal flakes in fluid. Jiffy Lube filled it up and says transmission is fine. We're still skeptical. Any insight into what we need to look for or do regarding this? We're scared that we're going to drive it a while and the transmission's going to go out after all. Any help will be appreciated!"<ul><li><a href="http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3862441">http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3862441</a</li></ul>

You'd have to be absolutely RETARDED to mess that up, and even MORE retarded to not realize the difference between USED OIL and ATF fluid which are completely different colors!!!

This coming from the geniuses who just performed an epic FAIL. I don't see how they miss the fact that the oil pan is under the engine.

The drain plug on the trans throws them off, as most cars don't have auto trans drain plugs like that.

Document this. I would ask for a tranny overhaul. If they wont do it, go to a tranny shop and have an analysis done. then prosent the bill.

You may need to contact JL corporate. Bets to have alawyer do so, it speeds things up immeasurably.

The amount of heat generated probably damaged bushing surfaces and slightly deformed parts. The metal flakes similarly are in all the little grooves, and may block various check valves. This is not simple stuff.

Unfortunately, driving it back when you knew it was out of fluid was a very, very bad idea.

The person getting their car serviced at JiffyLube or the person who drained the transmission?

Any Jiffy Lube hack should be able to tell the transmission from the engine on a car that's set up just like any American RWD vehicle.
