I need to pull the radio out far enough to get the number off of it for the code lookup. How is this done?

Factory bose system in 1994 100CS

I'm going to assume you have the type with four small round holes in each corner. This takes the special tool VW160:

I have the tool and if you want it, I can send it to you. Otherwise, you will have the two slots on the bottom of the face which require these for removal:

In both cases, you insert the tools into the slots and spread them outwards while pulling on them. You can also make your own of the above by shaping two of those metal hangers from file folders designed for file cabinets. I have a procedure for making them I found on here at home and will post it if you need it later.

I put one set in the glove box user manual folder in each car. I made one set out of fiberglass sheet that works ok, just doent have the professional feel, but was easy to make. Made another set out of aluminum sheet that works really nice but was harder to make. Have fun!

file off the sharp edges of the blades if you want to prevent inadvertent scratching.

Get a file folder that hangs on those rails...

and cut off the ends of the metal pieces. voila. each side is the end of each key for you.

There are 4 holes, I figured they were for removing the radio but thought i'd check first. If nails/coat hangers will fit and work then easy peasy, thanks.
