This car looks safe, much more so than a Honda or Toyota. This was such a nice car for $3500 and only had 139K miles. Just need to teach him how to take care of it properly.
This forum has a nice FAQ. I'm sure I'll be looking for info as repairs come up in the future. Hopefully it will be as good to me as the B5 A4 forum has been.

I'm fairly new to the C4 forum too hopped over from the 4000, 90/CQ forum. So far I have nothing bad to say. The C4 guys seem to be fairly mature and professional.
Emphasize the "teach him how to take care of it properly." part...

Good luck, they are big, heavy, safe cars! My younger brother (19) has had 2 accidents in his '96 A6q and is still here to talk about it (the car has been repaired twice and is still running strong).

only problems I ever experienced in 130K miles were a leaky/broken sunroof, bad ignition switch and worn CV boots....oh and the engine could really burn some oil. It's no Honda or Toy but for the money you could do worse. Good luck.

1.8T has not burned a drop of oil in the 9 years that I've owned it.

this means Audi's old philosophy of making NA engines to loose tolerances caused them to consume oil. It's normal and nothing to worry about, in fact it should get your son in the habit of regularly checking under the hood of his car.

do you know the VAG codes to fix the adaptive HID headlights on a lowered B7?
My dealer tech fixed a left headlight flickering problem (TSB for this) and then reflashed the adaptive program... unfortunately, because my car is lowered, it was throwing-off the initial leveling so now the lights are constantly scanning the road and adjusting. I understand there is a special VAG com code(s) for lowered suspensioned cars to remedy this. My dealer doesn't know this and the Audi Tech Line was no help other than to tell me to put my car back to original height spec.
