Aloha from Hawaii.
I'm trying to replace the battery on my 1997 A6 2.8 Q but 2 things are stopping me from doing so. First thing is I can't open the hood. When I pull the release from the inside it doesn't pop open, I'm able to pull the release from the grill but doesn't seem to do much even when I pull it all the way. Second, I don't know where the battery is located. Any information would highly be appreciated.
Mahalo!

the hood has two latches on on each side, if the cable is broken you have to manually release each side some how

see this post below: http://forums.audiworld.com/a6100/msgs/88080.phtml
also helps sometimes to have one person pull on the latch inside the car while another person "gently" pulls up on the hood.

http://forums.audiworld.com/a6100/msgs/88080.phtml</a

otherwise metal parts of the seat will short cut it. Also it helps to reatach the plastic gas pipe. After replacing battery you will need to reenter secret radio code.

only sand I have here in Chicago is on the road because of all the freakin' snow!! It's bound to warm up one of these days. ;-)

do a parallel jump from another vehicle's battery or a spare battery to the engine compartment terminals. Make sure it's parallel (+) to (+) and (-) to (-). You can then replace the battery from the back seat. Of course removing the battery/power w/out jumping helps reset the onboard computer aside from the radio security.

exit from the side. When I replaced my last battery with a Duralast battery from Autozone, their system specified a Group 49 battery, which has the vent tube in the middle where the battery holdown clamp resides. If I wasn't in an emergency situation, I would have returned it.

Thanks to all that posted. I was able to open the hood by having someone hold the realese while I bang on the hood and it popped open, replaced the battery and it's up and running again. As far sands, shells and peices of corals, there are lots of that here in Hawaii including lava rocks.
Aloha!
