I was wondering how does one get hold of the VAG-COM software? Is there anywhere one can download it for free : )

I'm not clued up on this at all. Noticed that a lot members make use of it so I would like to get it too!

You can prolly get the cable off of fleabay, but you need to acquire the license from Ross Tech. Thanks!!! I managed to download the software with out any problem. As you mentioned I must just get the cable now.

It can do the most common things like read and reset all the codes, reset the Check Engine light, etc. It won't reset the IN2 alert in the odometer. It won't give a diagnostic explanation for all DTCs. For many DTCs it gives the code, that you can look up somewhere else like Bentley, and just says buy the license. I'm still running the unlicensed version with a $20 USB cable from eBay. Works just fine for me.
