I believe my front cigarette lighter socket is fried on my 97 A6. It doesn't work and everytime I try to put a new fuse in, it blows instantly. Believe it's the front socket vs. rear because the front one looks rather nasty inside, while the rear looks ok.
Anyone out there got a spare socket (and lighter if you have it) for a decent price? Looking to pay less than the ridiculous price of $40 from the dealer. Thanks, Nate

go to radio shack and get a cig adapter for 10-15$ that has + and - terminals with wires that you can tap right into your fuse box, comes with an inline fuse. This way you can run it underneath your dash/steering wheel area and hide wires nicely for whatever it is you're plugging in. I have my radar dector hard wired, but did not have a hard wire kit for my garmin, so i just used one of these cig adaps, works nicely.

How long ago did you get that lighter assembly? The part # doesn't bring anything up, nor can I find it by going through the model, yr., etc. Closest thing is the element only.

That was not what I linked to. I'll find out what happened. I just went on the site last night (www.eurovans.com?) and it came up. Granted they were out of stock, but this redirect is strange. I will post later when I get home and look at the invoice again. I ordered it about 6 months ago.
