so all in one day-
on my way out to boston, CEL comes on,
on my way back, brake pad sensor warning light comes on,
come back, run codes and it tells me somethin about insufficient flow, i dont have the actual code with me, but will provide that later.
so my guess and stfa's was the fuel injectors were dirty/clogged, so i bought a bottle of techron and filled up the tank with it. next, due for an oilchange, so i do that while im working on the car anyways.

while under the hood, my brother decides to clean my engine bay using (forgot the name, but some forumla made fot it). change the oil filter from above (used suction to remove oil through dip stick instead of ramps), got some oil leakage onto the belly pan. figured cleaning the bay would wash away the oil leaked too.

Now, everytime i start up/start driving, with the window down i'll smell a burning rubber type odor. I'm not sure if its the hot hoses burning the stuff used to clean the bay that wasn't completely rinsed off, or burning oil that leaked, or the techron stuff not working...

any ideas??

sorry for the rambling and not getting to the point

btw, cleared the codes before putting in techron, took a drive to the autoparts store (10 mi total), and it never came back on

The CEL for insuficient flow is the EGR code that all of us have had to deal with. Go to the Archives and follow the instructions.

Don't suck the oil out of the engine......c'mon man.

The burning smell is all the oil you spilled and didn't clean up. It's blown back onto the exhaust down pipes and cats.

Sometimes you have to think, "How long is it going to take to half-ass this and then redo it correctly, as opposed to how long will it take to do it right the first time."

Not trying to dog you, just my 2 cents.

You're not going to get every single drop of oil out even if you drain it, some still remain in the engine block.

all that stuff collects in the sump where the plug is.

picking up crap that may float around.

excessive sludge is undesireable and filters do a good job of trapping particulates in a certain size range. But when you take off an oil pan there's always a layer of sludge there. I just think that draining the oil thru the plug keeps a reasonable handle on that.

Okay, good to know.
I just changed the oil yesterday, and first I drained it like normal, then I tried the suction thing and it picked up quite a bit more that didn't drain out. I also got some extra out of the oil filter mount.

Most likely it was because I wasn't perfectly level or something, but it's kind of hard to be level in my driveway.

Oh, and where do you guys get your crush washers from, the dealer?
