Hi there,

I just bought a 1997 Audi A6 Quattro wagon. My brake light came on the other day. I replaced the back up and brake bulbs and now none of my lights in the back work and my brake light is still on. Does anyone have any idea what I can do to fix this?

The Avants commonly have broken wiring in the hinge area of the rear hatch. Open the hatch and on the left side at the top you'll see an accordian rubber boot. Inside is a bundle of wires, some of which go to the 3rd brake light in the hatch.

Undo the boot from the body and slide it down to expose the wires and see if they are cracked or completely broken in half.

There is a brake light fuse in position 9 I think, which is inside the triangular shaped fuse door on the end of the dash, on the driver's side. Open the driver's door and look at the end of the dash facing the door and you'll see the fuse door. A thin blade screwdriver pries the door off.

Then there is the lighting control module (relay) out in the main fuse compartment under the hood by the driver's side of the windshield.

One warning, you must use the factory peanut bulbs in the 3rd brake light or the warning in the dash will still be on....because it's looking for a certain current draw.
