So today I had the opportunity to install an HID kit on my sister in-laws '96 A6. The drivers side was normal except the housing was broken inside. I was able to open the housing and fix it so the lights could be aimed and not shaking all over the place.

The passenger side was a different story. The housing was not broken in anyway but the low beam was not a 9006, but had a bulb holder for the H3 fog light bulb and holder in it's place. Here's a pic:

Here's what it should look like(Tabularasa's pic):

Notice right below the low beam is the fog light. You can see how it looks exactly like what's in the low beam on the car today.

I'm working on getting a broken A6 housing to get the parts off of the light to restore the car back to stock lighting so the HID kit will fit. If anyone has a broken housing and or another idea to make this work let me know. I'd rather not have to tell her she needs to buy a new housing to fix this mess the previous owner left.

I was saving it for the wifes hid conversion when she finally gave in and said yes, but it may or may not happen....
you would have to take the headlight apart to install it though..

It would be easiest to get the projector. Otherwise I'm thinking of contacting the vendor and seeing if I could swap one of the 9006 for the H3. here's the link

H3 HID kit

actually... its a good idea for a quick fix.

my problem is the stock wiring on that same side is to small a guage.

It overheated enough to melt the plastic around the bulb causing it to flop around where the plastic use to be.

It'll give me something 2 do.
