I found this on ebay, ive always wanted a flip key and ive heard that you can just take the blade out of a regular key and the chip and put it into one of these, is this true? i know it says that its for a 2005-2007 but like i siad i just want to use it to start my car, i dont really care about the remote on it, although it would be sweet if it were possible to reprogram the remote on it to use, but it doesnt matter

any thoughts?
thanks

that will not work with your car....
what year is your's anyway?
97's can use some early flip key fobs with the fcc ID of MZ2 410 819 6 3 or MZ2 410 819 6 4

Schlegle use the tools the audi gods have given you

ok, but if someone is just going to put the blade and chip that is already programmed to their car in it, why do you have to worry about the numbers? i mean becuase i have an extra key that the black plastic part on it is cracked so id like to replace with a flip key, i like that the key flips out and that you wont get jabbed with the key blade when its in your pocket. So i guess what im saying is, if it wont work to use this key i found as merely a holster for my keyblade(dont really care about the remote on it)then does anyone know of anythin that gives you this same "flip" aspect for an audi a6?

kinda silly to have one if the buttons don't do anything.
our cars don't have a chip in the key...
in order for the alarm to work you need the correct FCC id in the fob..
the blade from the regular key is not removable and even if you manage to get it out it won't fit onto the switchblade fob..

yeah i know its kinda silly to have one with the buttons on it, but i couldnt find just an Audi flip key without the buttons. So if i were to order it, what has to be done in order for it to work with my car?, becuase when i got my car it didnt have the " drivers key" or whatever it is called, it only had the "valet" key so i had to give the car to my uncle so he could take the car to the Audi dealer near him and have it cut. When i got it back it had a little sticker on the new key with some numbers on it and he said it cost 150.00 dollars to have it cut. So do you think that it would cost that much to have the blade for this key cut? and i was also wondering if ther are places other than certified audi dealers that can cut this type of key, becuase i dont have one near me, the closest thing i have is a Volkswagon dealership <could they do this?

thanks

Buy the fob (like the one you found) on ebay (though I would recommend a 1998-2005 fob, buy a blank blade for 10 bucks with shipping, and take the key to your local VOLKSWAGEN dealer (as the audi will charge you out the @SS to get it cut), and they should cut the new, blank key for you, for free.

This is what they did for me.

Total, to get a new, switchblade key fob, key blade, and get my key cut to the new one, cost me all of only 30 dollars with shipping.

I feel a lot more comfortable having a second key as a backup, plus, the switchblade is convenient to have and stow away, even though the remote buttons are non-functional.

ok thanks, i was hoping that i could take it to the volkswagon dealership. But do i have to take my car in order to have it "programmed" to it?

thanks again

no, like i siad before when i got my car i only had the valet key and it wouldnt lock the trunk, so i had to have a key made and when i had it made at the audidealership i had a regular blade key with the little black plastic cap on the end of it with the audi logo, and it had a little white sticker with a bunch of numbers on it, so i thought it had to be programmed or something, becuase i keep hearing about "transponders" in the keys

lol, but from your response i take it that i can just bring my key that i have now thats already cut for my car and the new key to the volkswagon dealership and they will cut it like they do at a hardware store>

thanks
