The problems is, I don't have a third hose for my car, and gas is coming up and leaking out of it.

Has anyone else had this happen while replacing their fuel unit? I don't know what to do, other than put the old one back in.

What is the purpose of this third prong?<ul><li><a href="http://wrclan.clanned.net/crusininda944/myspace/lola/fuelunit">More pics here</a></li></ul>

The hoses can get "lost" between the trunk floor and the tank. It runs up to the charcoal canister in the front fender. Plugging it would be a bad idea -- the fuel heats up during recirculation and the tank will get pressurized.

<center><img src="http://wrclan.clanned.net/crusininda944/myspace/lola/fuelunit/old1.jpg"></center><p>There wasn't a hose when I removed the old unit (as seen above), there were simply two prongs, and no holes... the gas tank was sealed shut (as I feel any gas tank should be...).

So, what am I supposed to do, then? There isn't a third hose that's "lost". There are only two.

I just don't understand the logic of kday by saying I should leave it OPEN and let the fuel BREATHE.

I'd rather have a pressurized gas tank than have half of my tank leaking throughout my car...

I think what Kday was saying was that you probably had a hose for that fitting that had dropped out of view and that you needed to find it and make sure it was hooked up. He wasn't implying you should just leave the fitting open and leaking.

I don't think he realized your original set up was only 2 fittings.

The banjo fitting is the high pressure supply line. The white hose fitting is the return line. And the black fitting is the vent. That is what I would expect, and what mine looks like.

If you have four fittings on your new piece, then I agree, plug off the extra one. I don't know what that is for.

And no, you are not supposed to let gas leak everywhere. If you read my post more carefully you will see that I was not suggesting that.

and they said it was correct. I don't know. Seems to be working fine after I plugged it.

Thanks for the help. :)

Coincidence, maybe? I don't know. But the car seems to be running fine now.

that I just got replaced, however those were a few weeks before everything else.

I never checked the code, as I have no way of doing it other than going to the dealer.

The VWTool program is free and the datalink connectors are on ebay all the time for cheap.
