I DID IT !!!

I SCREWED UP!!!!

I changed the tranny filter...

It had the original one dated 1992!
Replace everything in order everything run smooth.

So I never broke a nut or bolt before and never needed a torque wrench...

However I did want to do EVERYTHING right and used a torque wrench with the specified ft/lb to put back the pan to the tranny and...

OF COURSE I Broke the screw coming from the roof of the tranny....

#@^$!*(#@^%$(&*#@^%(#^%(#@%#@(

However.....

Assumed my lost put some rentosil 200c high temp sealing compund I got in autohausaz... help it in the corner where I broke the nut...

Went for a test drive and the tranny works flawlessly... No thunks No Chirps... nothing!

Came back look underneath and is not leaking...

So Far Soo good...

Never again with the damn thing... My intuition had always worked fine... Why change it???

consider how old the nuts are and the temps and moisture they are exposed to.

It could have been just old age

Personally, the only thing I ever torque down are head bolts and CV axle nuts. Otherwise, I just tighten stuff up based on it's size and what it does. 6mm bolts on the trans pan....short 1/4" drive ratchet, snub them up, and that's good. Side fill and drain pan, tighten just enough to seat the crushable washer and that's it.

Sorry that happened. The good news is that with a reverse drill bit, it'll probably back right out as you start to drill into it. You can probably get it out with the pan in place.

I saw it coming...

The rest of them I did it with a 1/4 wrench as you said...

It was the little loss of the big gain...

I also did the valve cover gasket today and was perfect... my car now runs smooth without smoke!

So overall it was pretty productive but I lost a screw on the way...

Now I am interested in your solution...

Can I take off the broken screw out of the tranny without major dismantling?

Can you elaborate a little more...

You know the feeling it would have been 100% perfect... :(
