Heater core has failed and I'm really looking forward to that 12hrs of Audi love.

A/C compressor has started making a nice knocking sound, so I'll be doing that fairly soon as well.

I'll probably tackle the heater core this week. I'm soooooo tempted to saw an opening in the heater box and slide the damn thing out, slide a new one in, and put the cutout section back in place with Marine glue.

You know the heater box comes out through the engine bay, right?

the problems.Doing some work of my own, I just pulled out my p.s. reservoir today to clean the screen. It doesn't come out, just sprayed it with Brakleen and compressed air. I hope it sucks fluid better and makes less noise now!

Sorry to hear about your troubles. The AC compressor in my 94 100 makes a knocking noise in cold(cooler) weather, but is fairly quiet in the summer. Been like that for two years so.......

I do have a spare used compressor just in case.

Let us know how the work goes.

No doubt it's going to be a lot of labor on your part but just think of how much worse it could be having to pay someone to do it! There's a good write up on here for the heater core, just make sure you do the blower motor at the same time... With 182k you'll be back in there in no time if you don't.

Or at least pull them apart, clean them, and make sure the brushes have plenty of life left.

Been lurking, but have been slammed with other car projects so haven't been freed up.

One guy was talking about a 3 day adventure.....took it apart on day one, cleaned and built the heater box on day 2 and put back together on day 3. Good grief.

I'm sure it won't take me 12, but still, I'm not looking forward to it.

Oh, and my CEL is still coming on for the EGR valve, so I need to replace the valve since I've done everything else. Damn it.

By the way Brant, your car looks great all "darked-out." It looks like it should be radar stealthy or something! Right on!

The hardest part will probably be taking the center console out for the first time. Once you've done it though, it goes back together pretty easy.

Thanks for the compliments on my car! I think I made the right choice changing its look a bit.

That seemed to take care of my CEL problem. Can't say for sure since the car has been parked for a month now, waiting for a new head gasket. But it went a couple of weeks with no CEL.
