View Full Version : Opinion Poll /A4 owners: Are you -1) happy 2) kind of...(few problems) 3) mistake (I want BMW !) As for the BMW, really liked the 323, would have had to give up extras like heated seats (got used to these in my VW) to keep price down, also the A4 is an easier car to drive well. Almost a year after buying it I can't walk away from my car without looking back at least once. It brings a smile to my face every time I get in, and a few minutes on a twistie back road well releive loads of stress (and my car is still unchipped). Negatives: Needs more power (chipping soon) Small back seat (almost never have back seat passengers, plus I and most of my friends are under 6' so it is quite useable) Gas mileage is nothing to write home about (22 mpg mixed and 28-30 mpg highway) Regards, Rodney '99 A4 1.8tqms PS Remember, no one car is right for everyone. There were few other cars that really compared in my book, the 323i was the closest, but I preferred the A4's ride, comfort, interior, features, and exterior, and the Quattro option. For others, neither of these cars would be the right choice...each to their own. Well, someone has to get the lemon, and this is my 4th Audi and the first one with such a mass of problems. Seb 10-21-1999, 12:47 AM So far a very steady, fun, smooth, and first-class 3,000 miles on our 99.5 A4 1.8T. Went to a shop to check out my friend's new Neuspeed sport springs installed on an Acura Integra tonight. Right across from the shop was a BMW dealer (new BMW's). Well, what do you know? We stopped by the dealership to browse through some of those new 3-Series coupes and sedans people have been talking about. Parked my 99.5 A4 right in front of the dealer showroom next to all the shiny BMW's. That's the way to really compare the A4 against these newly designed 3-Series BMW. Not to my surprise at all (because I've heard of too many negative comments about BMW dealers), we were greeted by some cheeZy salesman who acted like he owns 5 BMW's or something. I asked about the availability/pricing/brochure type of general questions and was given the following answers: "Don't have any 323 or 328 coupes/sedans available for sale right now. All the incoming 323/328 have been pre-sold. You can wait until mid-November and we will get a new shipment. Then he reads the color choices of the new shipment to me: silver, black, silver, silver, black, red, black, silver, silver, black, black..." (boy, do I have a choice for colors or what! what a joke!) Then he says: "Then again, if you want one tonight, then we can definitely work out something for you to get a car tonight." Yeah, like I was really going to buy a BMW 323 or 328! Both the exterior/interior of A4 meet my taste and the performance is also top notch. The other thing is that I didn't have to pay a premium for the A4. BMW dealer (at least the one we went tonight) confirmed with us that there is no room (or very little room) for negotiation. The demand is high so the price of the car is the window sticker price. So long BMW. You lost my business, easy. Still not convinced?
