View Full Version : Installed Mintex brake pads, no more dust, but LOUDER Squeek, HELP!

It was not really loud when first installed. I got it done at a brake shop. Now after two weeks the
squeek is louder than the OEM and it's annoying
the heck out of me. The squeek only happens on slight pressure, when I brake at 25mph.
What to do?

C-tech are designed for better racing and anti-fade properties.

If you have red box, you may want to bring it back in to the brake shop and have them apply some anti-squeal stuff to the backs of the pads.

I put on a set of Mintex Red Box, and didn't use any anti-squeal, and I very rarely get any squeal, usually only after I just wash the car. Other than that, I have no problems with Mintex.

I had the Redbox pads installed, and even before a track event, they started to squeal (left rear). After the first track event, the rear squealed like crazy and the front grind like a public transit bus.

I had C-Tech pads installed front and aft, and since then, strange noises are gone, even after track events. Yes, they are quite loud, expensive and produce a lot of dust, but I want pads that can survive track events...

I recently installed the C-Techs up front after using up the Redbox in less than 10k miles. Ironically, for me they squeal less than the Redbox.

Using anti-squeal compound on the Redbox seemed to help. The C-Techs came with adhesive backed rubber sheets that you cut to fit. They appear to be more effective.

Another thought: the rotor composition also affect whether a particular pad will squeal or not. In my case, the higher friction coefficient of the C-Techs seems to match the harder metal of my slotted Brembo rotors better than the Redbox, a softer pad.

1. Use antisqueal coating on the pads?
2. Slightly chamfer the leading and trailing edges of the pads with a file?
3. Bed-in the brakes correctly immediately after the installation....

10 to 12 stops using moderate pressure braking from 55 mph to about 5 mph with half mile driving in between stops to cool pads and rotors?

I installed the Mintex Red Box pads 500 miles ago and did the above....not one squeak, great wet braking, minimal dust, and the brakes feel like the originals!

Hope this helps....
