ok, how to explain. 1994 100s. i start the car, shift into reverse, works fine, neutral, fine, shift into drive and the dash says i'm still in neutral, but the car will move forward. barely. i step on the gas, and motor revs all the way up, but very little movement forward. if i shift down to drive 3, the dash says i'm in reverse and the car stalls. drive 2 same thing only says i'm in park, drive 1, trans goes into safe mode. any help would be great. thanks.

Could be a bad TCM, valve body, or other. Has your tanny been regularly serviced, i.e., change ATF every 45K miles? Don't forget that your '94 is an OBD I car, so a special scan tool will be needed.

I'm a newbie to Audis. Bought it in November and it didn't have reverse lights. Local guy put in a new multifunction switch (same as neutral safety switch?) and everything worked. But now this, which I read from old posts could be the problem. He put in a used part though. Does this sound like it could be it? Thanks btw.
