I got it to seperate, but I can't get it apart far enough to be able to get the drive shaft off and remove the flange.

The bolt inside that holds the flange is stripped out.

My Sears stud/stripped bolt removers can't even get onto it the way it's recessed. I'm screwed and on my way to Sears to see if there is anything that might work for me short of drilling it. Dammit! It felt like lead and was soft as a marshmello.
BTW, here's the drain and fill plugs identified (photo taken from passenget side).

Sometimes I wish I had never started this, but I couldn't keep going the way it was leaking, and you really can't just keep filling it with the cats in place anyway. PLus the stench and risk of burning fluid...Somebody PLEASE tell me fixing it was the right thing to do - I need a little encouragement today. :(

once the flange is off you can most likely use your fingers to twist it out.

Mark where it sits because you'll want it in the same spot when you go to put it back on.
It worked for me when I hammered an allen head wrench in and I was able to get the bolt out. They usually aren't very tight. You will still need a new bolt in the end.
Good Luck

The either replace the bolt or reinstall it with the 12 point. Use a big hammer and drive it all the way in.
