I changed the headlight on my 1997 A6 Quartro wagon today, but I had a problem with that darn trim piece under the light which the cleaner goes through. When removing the headlight, I pulled out the washer, unscrewed the trim piece, and rotated it. At some point, the washer unit snapped off the spring tube, and I pulled off the trim piece and snapped the washer back on. At the end of the job, the trim piece was still on the ground! How do I remove the washer again, and get the trim piece back in place. I can't seem to get the washer off of the spring tube.

Thanks,
Ken

ps. I can't find the answer by searching the forums

then it CAN go on with the just the colored cover off the washer. All you have to do is just wiggle it around. It does fit if you work at it, i've done it a few times. If you still can't get it, pull the washer out, until it is fully extended, then keep pulling. It won't break, just pop out again and spray water all over you...

"If you are refering to the trim piece under the headlamp held in by the one screw then it CAN go on with the just the colored cover off the washer."

This is what I want to do, but how do you get just the colored cover to come off? I thought I read somewhere that there are tabs, but I can't find any.

Thanks,
Ken
