torn between two loves

I have a dilemma. My business has done well so far this year, so I have decided to use my quartly bonus on a toy. I have narrowed it down to either an ex-Winston Cup RCR (Richard Childriss Racing) chassis ('98 w/ '99 Monte Carlo body with lots of spares) documented Ernhardt superspeedway car (ran Daytona 1x in '98, Taledega 2x '98, 1x '99, Charlotte 2x '98, Michigan 1x '98, 2x 99, Texas 1x '99 and others). I would run in the SCCA vintage stocker series, or get an S4, and do a few Oettinger mods (or others will be considered) to also run in track/club events. I think I would love both. Currently I have a 99.5 1.8TSM, '96 C2, and a 99 Montero (will be used as a tow vehicle).

Why not

I just purchased a CTR-4 for play-time. I had a 74 Pantera in the 80s. That car was a blast and a nice one could be had for about $ 45K.

...and it's SVRA and HSR that run allow old stock cars to run with them, not SCCA (unless
you convert it to GT-1 configuration, and you'll never get it anywhere close to the minimum
weight for SCCA - those NASCAR chassis are big fat tanks....)

If you'd rather have a V-8, get a Corvette. You could find one with some heritage, if that's important.

you are correct on the series's, i figured they were a little too obscure to mention and have others understand. I have towed a lot with previous Monteros and never really had problems. Mechanically I have never broken a Montero (I'v had 3) and all have been overloaded at one time or another. With, xtra tires, tandam axle trailer, etc., I will be around 5500lbs. This exceeds Mitsu's rating by 10%, but I have done this numerous times in the past. Most of my towing will be flat lands in the midwest. I would rather have a Suburban or Tahoe, though my wife is 5'2', 100lbs, and doesn't feel comfortable driving those beasts.
