The factory service manual states that the cam sprockets need to be loosened from the cams, in order to remove and replace the toothed belt. Why can't I just slide off the old belt, and put the new one on. Loosening the sprockets from the cam seems risky, as the manual states that there is NO key aligning the sprocket to the cam, its only a taper press fit. The cam might slip (rotate), thereby screwing-up the cam timing (there are no cam index marks!) Any experience?? Any Audi mechanic have any advice?? Thanks
