Recently noticed my rear right wheel smelling quite hot after short trips. Anybody know what could be wrong and how much it's going to set me back at a private mechanic? Thanks! (94 100csq)

Thanks for the reply.

The parking brake hasn't worked since I got the car (if you pull up the lever theres no tension, like its unhooked). Any idea of a ballpark of what the parts would cost?

Thanks!

but then you get 90 back for core....or you could rebuild them yourself....would be alot cheaper

http://www.bmaparts.com</a

If I have the parking brake on (up) and then release it (down) sometimes the handle still feels "loose," like if you hold the button in and move it up and down it feels "free" like you described "not connected." When this happens my parking brake is frozen on. Also, I get a similar situation with the rear rim(s) getting hot. Giving the two small coil springs by rear calipers a shot of lube usually frees (over time) my parking break, or if its frozen, leaving the parking break "off" for a few days usually returns the shoes to normal and brings tension back to the handle. Now I have heard that the same symptoms (hot rear rim) happen if the brake caliper is stuck on, but I just wanted to throw the parking break idea out there as it isn't to bad to get unstuck, although it is a bit of a process to adjust it properly. Hope this helps.

I had metal on metal. One of the guide pins had siezed and didn't allow the pad to relax off the disc. $17 for new pads, free tool rental from Pepboys, and 1.5 hours of my time. I didn't replace the rotor even though I should have. This summer I will look and new/better rotors-thats why i went with the cheapest pads I could find.
