I just bought a superb 100cs quattro wagon with 78k miles. It is really lovely but I must admit this is my first Audi. My brother has a 99' a4 with 166k miles. He has alwys bragged on this car so he pushed in the Audi direction.

My question is what are some things I should check on this car as far as scheduled maintenace goes?? I do not have records but the miles are right per Carfax.

Timing belt? oil recs? Anything?

I bought the car with non-working A/C. Does anyone have a clue what normally gives first with the A/C? The compressor does not come on with the auto climate control. I press the "snowflake" button and it just flashes and the goes off. It will not recirc either. Should I start compressor shopping or just have it charged? Thanks for any info you pass my way.

I have been an MB fan for years and participated heavily in mercedesshop.com so I must say this forum looks just as good! I am excited to be a new member! Thanks again

with tensioner, w-pump, thermostat and roller done asap. The reccomended interval is 60k so your already 20k overdue. As for the a/c my buttons also don't stay on but my a/c works fine. So just have the system checked and hopefully it only needs a recharge. If it turns out that your compressor's gone be ready to shell out about $600 for a new one.

Does it come on when you hit the defroster (i.e., windshield icon) button? If it does, then there isn't anything wrong with the compressor.

no I do not believe it does... The guy I bought it from told me the same thing you did. He said on a warm day it will come on, but it was so cold this week I could never check and see. I had never heard of this before.

Thanks. Joe
