I know the V8 Quattro's have them, but were they an option on the A6? How hard is it to do, what is required and how much does it cost? TIA

have the heating elements nor is there power wiring installed in the body. If you're looking for rear heated seats in a A6, move up to the C5 platform ('98 - '04).

One could get those rear seats with the heaters and install them.

The switches go on the back of the center console by those rear vents. It had two heaters, pass and drivers sides. The bench has the elements in it... I wouldn't be surprised if you could get the bench. Wiring it up could be a challenge, but probably not impossible.
