I picked up my car two days ago and I am loving it. But I can't find the wires (non Bose) for the CD changer in the trunk. Where are they? Also has anyone bought that $234 changer from Autotoys.com???
Drew, it's behind the trunk-liner. Look in the FAQ section here and it explains this and an install in detail. If you buy it from Clair, it has the full Audi warranty. Don't know about Auto-toys.

Klutes

I got the Panasonic changer from Crutchfield. I followed FAQ's and peeled back trunk liner. Still can't find the changer cable. I'll wait for this weekend, then get in there with a flashlight and mirror to try and find it.
I just installed mine last night. You'll have to really pull back the lining and look down along the corner. You'll see some wires, and taped up wires running along the corner, one of which runs up to the tail light. Along the series of taped up wires you should see or feel some sort of thin foam that's zip-tied to the taped up wires. Took me a little while to find it, but with some patience you will.
Good luck
I know now why this BMW fan has so much time to post drivel on this board. I stage 1'd my A4 not long ago and, lo and behold, a wanna-be in a new 323 wanted to play. The typical bmw type wanna-be.... new car, wants to race, forgets he's driving an automatic. Bye bye, now. ALLLLLLLrighty-then. I beat him off the line handily, but we'll never know how fast he really was because he turned off after the first block. Probably to drive his inferior car home in shame only to sign on and post nonsenical literary reflections of his shattered ego on A4 boards.
(I)ngolstadt (B)omber

Installed the Panasonic changer. Cable is behind the drivers side of the trunk liner. It is long enough to install the changer in several places. I opted to install it next to drivers side rear speaker and the door faces toward the front of the car. Allows me to change cartridges by folding the back seat forward from the inside of the car. With all the stuff I carry in the trunk, the option of mounting it on the floor of the trunk didn't work for me...
Oh ya.. you need the adapter cable to do the wire crossing magic and the six CD changer not the ten CD changer to work with the Concert system

I did not want to break the liner. So i removed the middle truck piece (plastic part that covers where the latch is for the trunk.
then I could peel back liner for the driver's side. The connector was cable tied to the area just over the wheel hump.

1996 a4 2.8 qms
(with screwdriver)
