Not one to listen to AM radio much, I had an occasion to switch there recently and VIOLA! All static! FM is fine. No messing with the radio, but definitely a problem with reception. Any suggestions before I spend umpteen hours troubleshooting? Thanks...

i know that many of the audi's stock radios have two seperate antenna connections. do you have an after market radio?

No after-market -- just the original Bose system. I have checked the connections at the back of the radio, but no improvement.

Not sure if it ever worked for you (if so then something may be messed up), but from what I understand our AM reception sucks and has always sucked. There's not much you can do about it. I know mine's not so great and I just gave up on AM.

i know that my antennas are in the windshield and in the rear window. you may have a bad antenna, but it could be that am just has bad reception. sorry.

For what it's worth, I have a 96 A6 and a 98 A4 (bose). The 96 has unbelievably bad AM reception on all but the strongest stations, while the A4 is a little better, but far from good. I attribute the A4 being better to the differences in the window antenna, but I think the basic antenna design is bad.
