Which power steering fluid should I use for my 1991 100? I recently purchased the car and have read that only Audi dealer purchased fluid should be used. I'm not ready to throw in the towel quickly and go to the dealer for fluids. Can the power steering fluids available at my local Walmart or K Mart be used?

I think the fluid you are looking for is called G002000, found at the dealer.
The closest thing at the gas station next door is the LHM, and LHM + fluid. Even the fluid is expensive at the dealer, it's also expensive for a new rack and pump, and it's not mutch fluid in the power steering system, so why take a chance.

The Audi uses special fluid that you won't find at Wal-mart, K-mart, or at your normal auto store. You have get it at the dealer or at an foreign auto store that specialized in European car. The brought a quart couple years ago and it cost about $15.00, so it's not cheap.

i had an Audi mechanic tell me to use Valvoline synthetic power steering fluid at about $5. I have been using it for several years in both Audi's with no problem.

From what I know the right fluid is G002000, that can be bought at the dealer.
I know BMW have many similar rack's, and in some cases identical pump's and they use Pentosin CHF 11S, some earlier models even use Pentosin CHF 7.1
The G002000 bottle I have reminds me most of
Pentosin CHF 7.1 since bouth containers have a green cap.
Anyone have seen a audi powersteering fluid with the red cap similar to that one on CHF 11S, and know the part number for it?

After checking I think Pentosin CHF11S is the same as G002000, these days..Because 11S meets the VW: TL 52146 spec, and I think that spec is the same as the current level of G002000.
Also I have read about a service bulletin, that said vw, changed from 7.1 to 11S in 1990, they just kept the same name ((G002000 )while the fluid changed ).
The 11S and G002000 have an Olive color, while the LHM and 7.1 have a more sharp green color.
Also look at the similarity in viscosity and sush between cheap LHM and these fluids to.

One thing I cannot figure out, is why G002000 use a green cap, while the 11S use a red cap, even it's the same fluid??
I also found information, if you want it cheaper elsewhere, this fluid have part nr:81 22 9 407 758 /82 11 1 468 041 at the bmw dealer, maybe the bmw dealer is cheaper..Who knows..

Thanks to all for the good information. I went to my local dealer (only a mile away) and bought a liter. With tax is was about $30.00.
