No but it is right under the ignition coils on the top front of the engine. Follow the plug wires from the plugs to the ignition coils(three seperate coils with two plug wires attaching to them). Right under that is where the P/S pump is located. It has multiple pipes coming off it that go to the steering rack and such.

do you have any pics of the removal? i have to change everything, the rack and pump and the rest of the mess, and the more i can do myself the less i have to pay someone else to do it.

Jlag: I am pretty sure the whine from the front of the motor is the power steering pump bearing. The rack was (I am happy to say) changed by a mechanic (and he is still comlaining about the job) but the pump, I am going to attempt myself. I noticed your your comment to 'audiracer'. I would appreciate whatever tips you can offer, including the best source for the pump itself, and how not to go broke by wasting the liquid gold that gets wasted when you undo the hoses!
Thanks.

From what I saw of the job, and the fact that the import mechanic who did the job still isn't speaking to me, I would give some thought to finding a mechanic (who hasn't yet become a victim of Audi rack positioning). It's a knuckle-buster of a job.
